Respect for the truth is an acquired taste

Anyways, last weekend I took my two dogs (whippets) to visit Gerard's (my boyfriend's) family in his small hometown in southern North Carolina. I've already spent some time with them so i knew it was going to be a great trip. To give you th gist of this story, I need to mention that Gerard is a handsome and beautifully mixed Creole and black man. He's delicious caramel and I'm a flavorless snow cone. ha. I grew up all over the world but spent most of my life in a culturally diverse area of Detroit. I have never paid too much attention to race, but I soon realize that many other people, especially those of his small town, still do. As we walked the dogs through the neighborhood, Gerard told me to look closely at the houses, more specifically, the windows. Sure enough, glaring eyes were peering through the cracks in the blinds. Perhaps they were curious? I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. But my goodness, we had at least three feet between us. It's not like we were making out...but Gerard's family lives in a predominantly white neighborhood. I was probably getting severely criticized. Oh well. I really could care less. I have had much more blatant attacks anyways.

The funny thing is....I feel as though I have faced equal amounts of criticism, racism, whatever you want to call it for being in a relationship with a "black" man from from both blacks and whites. They criticize for different reasons, but they criticize nonetheless. I could really let it roll off my shoulder and not give it a second thought...But I feel it is only right to say that I am in love with A MAN, he is a man regardless of color. He is extremely intelligent, eloquent and kind hearted. Does he seem this way at first glance? probably not...He has a strong build and might intimidate the meek. I love that about him, though. He breaks the stereotypes. I know who he is, i love who he is, and i think it's a shame that we are all judged by appearances. All of us. But we are, and that will never change for as long as we have bodies and eyes to view them.

I just want everyone to give people a second chance after the impression your form at first glance. It's ok to look, to wonder, to be curious of what is different. Just please don't write something or someone off for their differences.

I'm procrastinating like it's my job.
I have the simplest paper to write, yet I am working so hard to avoid it when I could be doing very little work to get it done. Ironic.
Why is procrastination present in so many of us? What purpose does it serve?

uugggghhh........this is like some sort of self-inflicted pain.

I'm living in a brand new high rise condo in Charlotte at the moment...so please tell me why I obliterated a roach in a frantic frenzy last night? I was born in Brazil and spent a few years of my short life there. Talk about roaches. Talk about flashbacks. Now I'm so paranoid that there will be a roach under anything I pick up! I took the rugs off of my bathroom floor so I wouldn't have any surprises. I am idle and afraid to move around. GROSS! I hope Mr. roach didn't bring any friends with him.

On a much happier note, I am packing up my cute little whippets this weekend and taking them on a roadtrip to see my boyfriend. Yup. My heart just started beating faster as I typed that sentence. Last time I saw him he treated me like a queen. Kisses, back rubs, a BEAUTIFUL necklace to match the bracelet he previously got me......it was perfect.

Today's events include Costco shopping, haircut and maybe a few highlights, a NAP, and a paper to write for my online course-wish me luck. I need to discuss what state our nation is in environmentally and do I see an apocalypse in out future, why or why not? 3-5 pages. Not bad. Hopefully I can knock that out. Feel free to share any ideas or opinions.

  I don't know what to do with my hair. It is barely to my shoulders and it is the longest it has been in over four years! I rocked the ultra short hair for a few years. I loved it. But its time for a change again...I'll probably chop it all of again someday though. Well im off to start my day. I really need to write on here more often!
